Corporate and social responsibility

As the consulting arm of a professional association for public sector ICT management, Socitm Consulting's ethos is one of public service, commitment to human values and social and environmental responsibility. Our consultants are diverse - both in terms of employment background (public, private and independent sectors) and in social, religious, ethnic and other characteristics. This is reflected in their professional relations with clients and with each other, and enshrined in our corporate policies as outlined below.

Diversity and equal opportunities
We are committed to equality of opportunity both in the provision of services and in all our relationships. This commitment is contained in our core values. We expect all our people to promote equality in the workplace and in the services we deliver, and to challenge inequality. In this way, we can help address inequality.

In our commitment to equal opportunities we mean equality of access for everyone to jobs, services, information, participation and equality of supply to clients.

We support diversity in the workforce. Our equal opportunities policy ensures that no person receives less favourable treatment on any grounds such as their age, sex, disability, ethnicity, faith, or because of their sexual orientation.

We equally take a strong position against harassment and bullying in the workplace . Each of our people has a personal responsibility to deliver their service, develop relationships and represent us with this policy in mind.

The environment
We are a leader in using electronic methods to communicate between its consultancy resources and subject to agreement, between consultants and clients, thus obviating the need for paper and other resources to transfer letters and reports by physical means. This conforms to BS14001.

Our consultants may travel in whatever practical form they wish - there is no organisational bias towards the use of road vehicles and no “company cars” are provided.

Our consultants consider environmental benefits in their recommendations to clients. In addition to e-mail for the transfer of documents, other technologies (eg video conferencing for reduced travel and electronic records for reduce office space) are recommended for environmental benefits in accordance with any project brief. “Brown paper envelope” tenders are never recommended.

We take into account environmental factors in projects – for example, when required to do so within projects (always recommended), safe methods of disposal and application of the waste hierarchy are emphasised.
