Description
Introduction
With so much to do immediately, why bother with a potentially difficult and time-consuming activity such as developing a new ICT strategy? Won’t the old one suffice a little longer? No, it will not, and we explain why.
Strategic context
ICT strategy is not just something that supports the corporate plan. As the lynchpin for building organisations fit for the information age, the ICT function must be alive to the wider environment, including the outlook of partner organisations, and the opportunities from the economic outlook. Conversely, services must understand the technology opportunity.
Inclusive development
If only for efficiency’s sake, it is tempting to treat the ICT strategy development just as a task for ICT function. Although this approach may have been enough in the past, we explain why it is now imperative to take a fully inclusive approach, and how to do it.
Strategy in action
There is much value in the process of building an ICT strategy. However, there is more value to be gained from how managers and others use it to drive the organisation forward. This is where transformation begins.
Conclusions
We summarise our conclusions in a set of short checklists designed to guide readers through the strategy development process.
